30 Days of Knitting (14)
So I just realized I stopped my 30 days of knitting project. Because I got bored with the questions. But then I had knitting happiness. So I decided to create my own Day 14 question: What is your current favorite cast on? That would be the Magic Cast On. I learned the knitted cast on first then the long-tail and I’ve done provisional and a few others here and there when the pattern calls...

npr: A visualization of the world’s oceans. From NASA: This visualization shows ocean surface currents around the world during the period from June 2005 through Decmeber 2007. The visualization does not include a narration or annotations; the goal was to use ocean flow data to create a simple, visceral experience. Or as FastCo.Design described it “Better Than Van Gogh”

here’s something nice about being an adult - all those days staring out the window at the gorgeous weather when you thought to yourself, “I just want to get in the car and drive with all the windows down and not care where I’m going”. You can do that.  As long as you’re back in time for work the next morning.  You can drive to the nearest body of water and just enjoy...

fishingboatproceeds: Yesterday on twitter, I expressed annoyance with the hundreds of people who send me emails or tumblr messages or whatever to let me know that they illegally downloaded one of my books, as if they expect me to reply with my hearty congratulations that they are technologically sophisticated enough…

today’s awesomeness: Taking a nap.  With the window open.  Fresh air, afternoon sunshine and a cat.  It doesn’t get much better than that. Someday I will write an essay on the unique attributes of naps in each season…but for now I must knit!

What was awesome today: It was rainy.  Which on some level always makes me want to do this. Plus also I am glad to have friends who don’t think I’m completely nuts when I admit how often I used to stand out barefoot in the rain trying to feel the tree roots grow beneath my feet.  And I wasn’t the only kid trying to dig to China.  Or Russia, which I always thought was more...

what was awesome today. So technically this was awesome at the time it was written in Nov 2011 but I read it this weekend, so it gets picked now! The post puts down very well why we should be wary of criticizing the taste or preferences of people.  It also outlines why something does not have to be “good” in order to be meaningful and enjoyable. Why do we feel like we have to...

What was awesome today: The Oceanic Point of Inaccessibility  is my new favorite thing!  The farthest you can be away from land.  I used to daydream about this.  I still daydream about this.  And it’s a real official thing with its own mystery! My new catch phrase is going to be, “do you know about the Bloop?”
